Kingsmill Resort & Spa (Williamsburg, VA)            2011                                                                                                     19th Hole Staff Rating:  Four Golf Balls (an Eagle)

While we didn't find any on the Plantation course at Kingsmill Resort & Spa, our staff did find Eagles (the 19th hole at this resort for the course we played as well as the more notable River Course) to be a great location to enjoy a sandwich and cold beer.  Formerly home of the LPGA Michelob Ultra Open (on the resort's River Course), Eagles has a great pub atmosphere with a more refined sitting area overlooking the back terrace.  The view from the terrace (see top photo right) is noteworthy as it looks over the 18th green of the River Course with expansive views of the James River just beyond.

While the lunch menu is somewhat limited to soup, salad, and sandwiches, each option is top notch (such as the Grilled Chicken sandwich with cranberry-orange mayo or the Bibb Lettuce Salad with goat cheese and your choice of shrimp, chicken, or sirloin to top it off).  Should you wish to explore more upscale options, you are in luck as Kingsmill's main conference center is right next door (where you will find access to their Regattas and Bray restaurants).

The staff is beyond hospitable and will make you feel like you are at your home course.  Furthermore, for those who enjoy a good beer selection, you'll be happy to know that InBev no longer owns the resort.  Hence, you can now choose something other than Budweiser products.

Important Notes:  For an off-resort option and for those who enjoy some really good BBQ, a short drive of approx. 7 miles will get you to Pierce's BBQ.  Most likely the best BBQ in Virginia (according to our staff), Pierce's offers inside dining options, some amazing sweet tea, and to-go pints/quarts of pulled pork or chicken.

Specials at Eagles include Monday evening's with half price wine and on Thursday evenings, the staff serves up some delicious Kobe Burgers.
